LASIK, "LAser in SItu Keratomileusis" corrects the refractive errors of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
The history of using lasers on the human eye goes back to 1985. It wasn't, however, until October, 1995 that the FDA approved the first Eximer or "cold" laser for PRK treatment for nearsightedness in the United States.
LASIK was first performed in 1990 in Europe and in 1991 in the United States in New Orleans, Louisiana. LASIK then became an "off label" procedure of choice by many outstanding laser surgeons. By 1999, LASIK received FDA approval.
Dr. Teles has been in the forefront of Laser Vision correction ever since the FDA's first approval in 1995.
Over the last 17 years many upgrades and changes in lasers, technology and treatment options for refractive errors have evolved. Since this time millions of patients world wide have enjoyed the benefits of laser vision correction.
Dr. Teles' office is equipped with state of the art diagnostic equipment. Corneal topography, a special video photography for corneal surface integrity, pachymetry for corneal thickness and endothelial cell photography for examination of the inner lining of the cornea allowing for the most advanced evaluation of corneal health prior to laser surgery.
Further testing is preformed to rule out and/or correct dry eye, allergic eye conditions and other conditions such as cataract. Retinal health is evaluated using RTA, the newest photographic technology for documenting retinal health.
Attention to details and to goals and especially concerns of patients, allows Dr. Teles to counsel patients as to whether they may be good preoperative candidates and which of the myriad of procedures would best fit their need for the most favorable postoperative outcome.
